J. JS LEE to manufacture masks to donate to elderly

Ever since the global outbreak of COVID 19, there hasn't been a single industry that has not been affected, and the fashion industry isn't an exception.

Despite all the loss caused by the canceling collections, seasons, and closures of physical stores, some fashion groups and brands have stepped up to support the health system and communities.

Earlier last week LVMH group has ordered 40 million health masks to support France's health system, and more fashion labels are coming forward to do their part during this crisis.

London based designer J. JS LEE has made a bold move to put a pause on all the production of her clothing line and instead, announced to produce re-usable masks to protect more vulnerable of the society in the UK.

She explains at first, it was just an idea. Fabrics initially ordered to be used for her label instead used to make health masks to protect the community in Hackney, where the brand's studio is based.

The reaction from the community was positive and soon received requests to produce more for families and friends, and Hackney Mask was born.

J. JS Lee has come up with a structure of a cycle where every two handmade masks purchased will support creating one mask to be donated to the elderly and most vulnerable in the society—and looking to expand to support larger groups in need.
